Kia ora and warm ethnic greetings!

Welcome to the New Zealand Communities Football Cup (NZCFC) website.

The NZCFC event is the national tournament for the winners of ethnic or multi-cultural regional football events held around the country over the past 12 months.  Regional ethnic football events have been held by local councils and ethnic organisations for some years.

The inaugural NZCFC event was held last year in Wellington and won by the Upper Hutt based Somalian team.  Their 2-1 win was a fiercely fought out battle with the Polish team from Christchurch.

The New Zealand Police owned event was established to raise the profile of police and provide an opportunity for positive interaction amongst ethnic communities.

2009 NZCFC event

Palmerston North will play host to the second annual New Zealand Communities Football Cup (NZCFC) on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November 2009.

A total of eight teams have qualified from Auckland, Christchurch, Hamilton, Nelson, Upper Hutt, Wellington and host city Palmerston North with players of mixed African, Dutch, Fijian, mixed Middle Eastern, Polish and Somalian descent. Last year's winners, the Upper Hutt based Somalian team, are automatic qualifiers.

This year's event is co-hosted and co-funded by police and the Palmerston North City Council with support from regional sports trust, Sport Manawatu, Central Football federation and various other organisations.  The Kingsgate Hotel Palmerston North is the major sponsor, assisting us with the team accommodation and the awards celebration venue.  Drinks manufacturer, Frucor, has kindly donated Mizone sports water for players and officials.

The council and Sport Manawatu are also co-ordinating a festival around the tournament and information stands will highlight keys services and opportunities for ethnic communities such as community safety, human rights and police recruitment.  Government agencies confirmed include the Departments of Internal Affairs and Labour, the Human Rights Commission, Ministry of Social Development and the Office of Ethnic Affairs.

Other festivities include a police dog demonstration and on the Sunday at 11.45am, a display from the police Armed Offenders Squad involving an Air Force helicopter.  Entertainment and food will also be available on both days.
